Ukraine Today needs to Preserve and Multiply
the Political Liberties and add to Them Liberties in the Economic Sphere, V. Lytvyn.
It was declared by Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in the course of the meeting with John Tefft, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Ukraine.
According to the words of the Head of the Parliament we need to provide the transparency of power and make everything possible for Ukraine to be a responsible partner.
The Parties discussed enhancement of bilateral relations, especially their inter-parliamentary aspect.
Speaking on the bilateral Ukrainian - American relations, V. Lytvyn emphasised that in the result of the meeting of the President of our stated "there is a favourable moment for the intensification of interstate relations", emphasising the role of the Parliaments in this context.
V. Lytvyn is convinced that the strengthening of the cooperation between Ukraine and EU structures and USA as well as the balanced and pragmatic relations with Russian are in the sphere of common interests for the both parties. According to him, Ukrainian foreign policy is supposed to be built in such a way, "lest there are distortions" for all the interests are supposed to be taken into the consideration.
As far as the priority objectives were concerned, the Head of the Parliament singled out "restoration of legal framework in the country", elimination of corruption, "full-fledged depoliticization of the judicial system" and "establishment of efficient public administration system" to settle economic issues. "Neglect of laws is a crucial issue in Ukraine, we shall put end to it", - he stated.
In his turn, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary announced the intensions of the Congressmen to visit Ukraine and investigate the processes in the country and discuss the perspective of the bilateral cooperation.
Giving comments on the request of the journalists regarding the result of the meeting, V. Lytvyn announced that among others, they discussed the political situation in Ukraine, after the adoption of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine the Law "On Ratification of the Treaty between Ukraine and Russian Federation on Dislocation of Black Sea Fleet on the Territory of Ukraine"; what processes one may expect in the state and how it may influence the relations between coalition and opposition; the plans of the Verkhovna Rada regarding the adoption of the decisions on reformation of the judicial system and fighting corruption, on cooperation with IMF and also on the perspectives of adoption by the Ukrainian parliament of the decision regarding the foreign armed forces participation in military trainings on the territory of Ukraine.
"It is a complex of issues that are sensitive for Ukraine and the development of which is observed with interest by the Europe and the whole world as actually it concerns the issues beyond the borders of Ukraine."
